‘The rapidity of change and the speed with which new situations are created follow the impetuous and heedless pace of man rather than the deliberate pace of nature.
Rachel Carson from ‘Silent Spring’
Today and tomorrow
We live in a time where our health and our planet are facing dangerous challenges, therefore our first commitment must be to the well being of Humanity and the environment. SHARKCHASER focuses on finding innovative and practical solutions to some of the problems we are dealing with in our everyday life. Environmental and Social responsibility, transparency and measured impact is our priority.
Positive impact for all
We design holistically and with purpose, we are committed to creating luxurious and beautiful products of quality, that have inherent value and desirability, and that will pass through generations. To have a business that is socially and environmentally educated and aware, and that functions as such, is not a choice, nor a marketing tool, it is our obligation. We strive to be the most informed in our practices and to exemplify the values we proclaim.
In our design, manufacturing and distribution processes, we aim to make the most responsible product possible. We will continually challenge ourselves, our suppliers, partners and employees to source materials and construction techniques that minimize our impact on the earth. We make decisions that prioritize the longevity and durability of our bags that allow for a longer life cycle of use— we believe this is an important part of a conscious business.
The materials we choose are at the core of what we do. Our choice to use leather is driven by our belief in buying less and buying better. We choose natural materials that will last longer. Our goal is to avoid plastic and fossil fuel derived materials, particularly single use or virgin plastics.
We use best in class Italian leathers. We work with a few tanneries, and we know them well. All our tanneries are members of the Leather Working Group and are EU REACH compliant. They hold ICEC certificates for environmental management, quality management, social accountability management, and Iren Verde certificates of quality for the use of renewable energy.
Our bonded leathers use a water based non-toxic glue that is applied through pressure not heat. We do not use plastic fillers in our bags. Our threads are made from the only globally available 100% recycled line of premium core-spun yarn offering the same proven level of performance as the industry’s leading non-recycled threads. Our threads and our zips are made from 100% post consumer recycled PET bottles using Mechanical Recycling technologies, are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and are Öko-Tex and GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified.
We are extremely excited about the styles we are currently developing for our vegan friends, made from unique vegetable-based materials, fit for biodegradability. These materials are emergent bio-fabrications, organically grown, coming from entirely renewable, natural and indigenous sources, that respect and honor the land as well as the communities that work with them.
